The city of Lanzou, the capital of Gansu province, set up its first tourism center overseas, in the city – state of Singapore, on Aug 28, Lanzhou Daily has reported, explaining that a provincial delegation hosted a meeting with the idea of encouraging Singaporeans to visit Lanzhou and experience northern China’s landscapes and local customs.

The meeting covered sites and activities in Lanzhou, for example, the Yellow River, thought by many to the cradle of China, and traditional foods such as beef noodles. It also introduced Reader magazine, which has its HQ in Lanzhou, and a ballet Dunhuang, My Dreamland, which tells a story of romance that took place in Gansu’s Dunhuang, a world famous historic site.

In addition, a Lanzhou spokesperson gave an introduction to the city itself, while Lanzhou Tourism Administration personnel explained favorable tourism policies and signed a cooperation agreement with Singapore’s Huading Co, whose chairman, Li Liangyi, described Lanzhou as a city that has been famous since olden times, when many businessmen passed through leaving many stories behind.

Li went on to say that Lanzhou and Singapore can work together because Lanzhou is known as one of China’s Top 10 Cities for a summer visit, while Singapore has a tropical, marine climate that is humid year-round, making Lanzhou a good option for a climate change, and vice versa.

The Chinese Embassy in Singapore’s cultural counselor, Xiao Jianghua, was present at the meeting, with Li Liangyi and representatives from more than 70 Singaporean travel agencies and 10 media organizations.
