Fuzhou Customs was commissioned by the General Administration of Customs (GAC) to carry out the inspection, and will submit the acceptance report to GAC to get final approval for the market’s opening.

The commodity market occupies 160,000 square meters in Aoqian town. It is composed of 68 different folk dwellings in Minnan style. About 117,000 square meters in freight and commerce zones will be under customs supervision and management.

A total of 63 cameras have been installed across the market to monitor all customs procedures. Other customs facilities, such as checkpoints, customs warehouses, fences and a comprehensive information management system, have been set up as well, according to a customs employee.

A favorable tax policy will also be in effect at the commodity market, which is authorized by the Ministry of Finance to exempt taxes on six categories of Taiwan goods: oil and grain products, farm products, textiles and garment, artware, light industrial products and medicine.

The daily cap for commodities per person is 6,000 yuan ($960). Purchasing records by individuals will be tracked by the information system, and if the sum exceeds the 6,000-threshold, both customers and merchants will be notified to pay the overdue tax bills.
