A tourist was saved after being stranded on a reef submerged by rising tides in waters off Pingtan county?last Wednesday, local police said.

The man, surnamed Zhuo, 22, was having fun with his friends before the tide quietly rose and threatened their safety on a reef in Guimo islet that morning.

Zhuo called for help at around 10:30 am. Police sent a rescue team 10 minutes later and saved them.

The team has saved more than 10 tourists this summer. More than 80 percent of the cases occurred around Guiyu islet, which has complicated geographic conditions. Police have warned people to avoid going near the area.
