Yu also serves as a CPPCC standing committee member, president of the Federation of Associations of Hong Kong Overseas Chinese, founder, chairman, and chief president of the Hong Kong and Guangdong Community Federation.
He has taken an active part in social services for many years and has supported the development of Guangdong and has provided relief for people in disaster-stricken areas. To help Wenchuan, the county in Sichuan province that was devastated by an earthquake, and to help rebuild the Beichuan Middle School, the Hong Kong Overseas Chinese Association raised HK$ 210,000 from a charity drive, on Oct 27, 2009.
Over the past two decades, Yu has given more than HK$ 20,000,000 to social welfare projects in education, culture, and other areas in his family’s homeland.
