In 2007, Du founded Beijing Ecoman Biotech in Zhongguancun, Beijing, specializing in the research of green plant protection technologies, product development and market promotion.

Du was born in 1964 in Xiantao city of Hubei province.

In 1985, Du graduated from the plant protection department at the Central China University of Agriculture. In 1988, he got his master's degree at the Beijing University of Agriculture (now called China University of Agriculture), majoring in insect science. In 1993, he studied for a doctorate degree at Cambridge University with full scholarship.

After graduating from Cambridge University, Du worked as post-doctoral and senior researcher in the biology and biomedicine department at the University of Durham, UK.

In 2002, Du obtained an MBA degree from Durham University's business school.

In 2007, Du founded Beijing Ecoman Biotech in Zhongguancun, Beijing, specializing in the research of green plant protection technologies, product development and market promotion.

Beijing Ecoman Biotech has developed into a comprehensive group for the control of green plant diseases and insect pests. It has multiple branches, independent development and scaled production capacities. It also has nationwide marketing and other services.

In 2009, Du was selected in the One Thousand Talents Program of the central government. He is employed by the central and Beijing municipal governments as an expert.
