Young artist Shen Ye is holding her solo show entitled Obscure Purposes of Desire at Today Art Museum, featuring about 30 of her latest oil paintings and ink-on-paper works.

The avid fan of experimental movies draws inspiration from female protagonists who are often tormented by their materialistic desires and cruel social reality.

Some of her works also deal with such issues as cross-dressing, prostitution and the gay community.
