通用汽車公司（GM）21日晚公布了一份關(guān)乎存亡的“求生計(jì)劃”。通用汽車首席執(zhí)行官瓦格納宣布，GM將關(guān)閉12家裝配廠以及零部件倉(cāng)庫等支持性工廠，并裁員3萬人。此次計(jì)劃破除了之前通用汽車公司將破產(chǎn)的傳聞。請(qǐng)看外電報(bào)道：
Wagoner said the job cuts will come primarily through attrition and early-retirement packages to mitigate
the impact on workers. GM has an annual attrition rate of about 7 percent,
Wagoner said. The average hourly worker is around 49 years old, he said.
Attrition 的本意是“磨損、消耗”，如，“消耗戰(zhàn)”可表達(dá)為a war of
attrition。在報(bào)道中，attrition指的是“人員自然縮減”，就是由于退休、死亡而造成的人員減少，而不是人為的辭退。
例如：By a quite practice of attrition we were able to reduce our staff
size and cut our annual expenses while not firing anyone and risking a
