MACAO - An exhibition that features 1,000 primary and secondary school textbooks used in the Chinese mainland for the past 100 years, has been unveiled here and will last till August, the Macao Post Daily reported on Friday.

Co-organized by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and People's Education Press, the "Virtue and Wisdom" exhibition showcases the publisher's collection of primary and secondary school textbooks, which was aimed at letting the locals to learn more about mainland's history of education.

The exhibition is divided into four sections, including traditional enlightenment books, textbooks of the late Qing Dynasty, textbooks of the Republican period and those of the New China.

Education is an important foundation in the development of a nation, and it is like a mirror that reflects the civilization and advancement of society, the daily quoted the Tam Vai Man, chairman of the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, as saying.
