Long rumored to have been in the works since the series concluded in 2004, "Sex and the City" finally has undergone its early step as the show's cast member Mario Cantone revealed that a script for the project is getting penned by Michael Patrick King, the original's screenwriter, director and executive producer.

"I know the script is being written and I know it will be brilliant because Michael Patrick King is writing it," the funnyman, who played Charlotte's wedding planner Anthony on the series, told Australian Associated Press.

Saying that many of the show's fans are desperate for the feature film version, Cantone also confirmed that he would take part in the picture as well.

"I know that I'm in it. I have a nice part in it, I'm told," he remarked. "If it happens, we should film it in early fall, I think, but I hope it stays on course, because I would love to do it."

The original, aired by HBO, was created by Darren Star based on Candace Bushnell's novel of the same title and revolved around the lives of four female best friends in New York City. Premiered on June 6, 1998, the series quickly became a huge hit across the States, even around the globe. Over its course of six seasons, it scored over fifty Emmy Awards nominations while winning seven out of twenty-four Golden Globes nominations it received.
