Mcdonald's was at least embarrassed by a 23-year-old man who accused the fast-food giant of failing to deliver food according to its own policies in Nanjing. He is seeking a compensation of 1 yuan (12 US cents).

Nanjing Xuanwu District People's Court held a closed hearing on May 14 to collect evidence from Liu Quan, who raised the accusation against McDonald's Restaurants (Nanjing) Foods Co Ltd.

Liu, an advertising associate, was an intern at McDonald's while at university. He was thus familiar with the company's interior food handling standards.

In March, Liu dined at a McDonald's restaurant and found the hamburger he ordered had been put on the counter for more than 45 minutes. McDonald's global standard states that hamburgers should be sold in no less than 10 minutes.

After arguing with the restaurant's officials and getting no satisfactory answer, Liu filed a lawsuit to the court.

"The standard Liu refers to is a private thing of our company. We can promise that our food is up to all Chinese hygiene criteria," said Zhao Zhongmin, McDonald's Nanjing spokesman.

He claimed McDonald's business had not been affected by the ongoing court case.
