Over 560,000 people relocated in flood-stricken Anhui
( 2003-07-10 17:35) (Xinhua)

East China's Anhui Province has so far evacuated more than 564,400 people from the flood-stricken Huaihe River valley.

Among the evacuated, 339,600 have sought shelter with relatives and friends, 5,300 are living in state housing, 30,900 in tents, and 118,600 in shacks, according to the provincial civil affairs department.

After continual rainfall caused flooding in many parts of the province, a local rescue taskforce has been working to provide food, potable water and accommodation for victims.

By Wednesday, the Province has allocated 18.4 million yuan (2.2 million US dollars) especially for disaster relief purposes, and another 11.3 million Yuan (1.4 million US dollars) worth of goods, including 569 tons of rice, 766 tons of flour, 98,000 boxes of instant noodles, drinking water, coal, clothes and quilts.

Meanwhile, a special team consisting of 6,966 medical workers has been set up to offer medical services to the local people.
