Grab the last few days to see Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota's paper works and installations now displayed at the Hadrien de Montferrand Gallery before the exhibition closes on Saturday.

The Osaka-born woman, 43, now living and working in Berlin since 1997, creates in her paintings a world of poetic and soft feelings mixed with violence and distress. The introvert artist unveils a corner of her innerself that is connected with childhood memories and dreams.

Shiota is also well known for exploring in the realm of performance arts. She once studied under the guidance of Marina Abramovic. She is deeply influenced by several avant-garde artists including Louise Bourgeois and Eva Hesse.

Shiota once said that, "There was a time when I thought of quitting art and I fell into a slump. I couldn't go back or forth painting but just the thought of not creating made me cry painfully. Six months later I thought to myself, "There is no way I could stop pursuing art even if I tried."

Shiota’s works will be featured at the Japanese pavilion at the Venice Biennale, to be opened on Saturday.
