The total of 31 provincial regions' GDP in 2012 reached 57.69 trillion yuan ($9.25 trillion), 5.76 trillion yuan more than the national GDP figure, China Youth News reported. The gap between the total local GDP and national GDP has been widening over the years. To address the issue, the performance appraisal system for officials will be reformed so that GDP will not be the primary criteria in the system, analysts said.
