DALIAN - A man has been arrested in northeast China's Liaoning Province on suspicion of shooting a man and a woman dead.

Yan Yongbo was arrested at around 4 pm on Friday in a bus station on Bayi Road in Dalian City, 21 hours after the shooting.

According to police, Yan, 55, shot the two people in a residential area in Dalian's Zhongshan District on Thursday night. Initial investigation shows Yan was the female victim's uncle.

Gun violence is unusual in China as private gun ownership is tightly restricted.

In June, Liu Shuangrui shot dead four people, including two police officers, and injured five others in north China's Hebei Province.
