China's rule of law will be recognized by world: official

(Xinhua) Updated: 2014-10-30 15:49

BEIJING - China will unswervingly walk the road of socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics and is fully confident in its choice, a senior official said Thursday.

The socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics fits China's actual conditions and will provide a strong guarantee for the nation's economic development and social stability, said Jiang Wei, head of the office in charge of judicial reforms, at a press conference.

He said there is no universal or best mode of rule of law, only a most suitable one.

"Now the world has recognized the Chinese mode of economic development, and we believe it will also recognize the Chinese mode of rule of law," he said.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) vowed at a key meeting held last week to "comprehensively promote rule of law" by insisting on socialist rule of law with Chinese characteristics and strengthened Party leadership.

At the press conference, Jiang reiterated that the handling of Zhou Yongkang's case has showed the CPC's firm stance toward fighting corruption, while responding to questions about why issues related to Zhou Yongkang were not mentioned at last week's CPC meeting on rule of law.

He said he did not know the progress of Zhou's investigation and "is unable to" answer questions about the investigation.

In July it was announced that Zhou, a former Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, had been put under investigation. He is the highest-ranking official to be targeted by the CPC's anti-corruption campaign.
