(CRI/chinadaily.com.cn) Updated: 2014-09-10 11:32

Beijing is developing an app for mobile devices that can help people with depression, the Beijing News reports.

The app is part of Beijing's effort to raise awareness for depression and prevent suicide.

The app will provide treatment methods, online inquires and appointments, psychological interventions and prognosis.

It features tests that help determine if the user is depressed; it will also monitor and display physical signs through cardiograms and electroencephalograms.

The app was initiated at the psychological research and intervention center at Beijing's Huilongguan Hospital, also the place where it's being developed. It is expected to be completed within three years.

About 287,000 Chinese people commit suicide each year, and another 2 million attempt it, according to China's health authorities.
