Shanghai students' performance in financial literacy under the Program for International Student Assessment is still excellent, according to results released on July 9.

The triennial PISA aims to rate the performance of 15-year-old students in the OECD and other countries through a range of assessments.

Shanghai students have the highest average score in the financial literacy assessment, followed by the Flemish Community of Belgium; Estonia; Australia; New Zealand; the Czech Republic; and Poland, according to the 2012 PISA financial literacy assessment results released by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

About 29,000 students from 18 countries and economies have participated in this optional financial literacy assessment.

A total of 1,197 Shanghai students from 155 schools participated in the assessment, according to the Shanghai Education Commission.

In December, Shanghai ranked first in mathematics, science and reading in the PISA for the second time.
