Expeditionary soldiers' remains to be buried

Yunnan provincial authorities will bury 23 cinerary caskets of soldiers from the Chinese Expeditionary Force, which fought against Japanese aggression in present-day Myanmar during World War II.

The ashes of the soldiers, who died in 1944 and 1945, were found by Yunnan's Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, which got help in Myanmar from Buddhist monks, both Myanmarese and overseas Chinese, the office said.

The remains will be laid to rest at a ceremony later this week in Tengchong, a county in Yunnan that borders northern Myanmar.

The next focus will be the surviving soldiers of the Chinese Expeditionary Force and providing them better lives, the office said.
