Import expo to focus on advanced tech

Catering to the slowdown of China's foreign trade, the 2014 China (Kunshan) Import Expo, which will be from May 14 to 17, will highlight advanced technologies.

"We hope to prompt the upgrading and transformation of China's importers and exporters," said Ma Minglong, head of the Department of Commerce of Jiangsu province, at a news conference on Tuesday in Beijing.

Ma pointed out that the focal point for the exhibition is not the volume of deals, but providing a platform for Chinese manufacturers to learn from foreign exhibitors.

"We hope to facilitate China to import advanced technologies from overseas," Ma said.

This year's expo will be divided into three exhibition areas — metal processing and automation, ecomaterials, and consumer goods.

The consumer goods exhibition area will showcase electronic consumer goods, household products, coffee and accessories.

More than 600 enterprises from over 40 countries and regions have confirmed attendance at the expo.

CIE 2014 covers an area of 80,000 square meters, an increase of 33 percent from last year. The import expo attracts the most influential organizations and enterprises from around the world, such as the US, Japan, Korea, France, Germany, Australia and the UK.
