A lawsuit was filed in a local court in Changsha city, capital of Central China’s Hunan province, over discrimination against color blindness during recruitment for provincial civil servants, Beijing News reported Friday.

Liu Yun, an alias of a man who took the civil servant examination, learned he was refused by the Bureau of Geology and Mineral Exploration and Development of Hunan province in October 2010 because of his color blindness, despite his top-ranking score on the written exam and interview.

The bureau discovered Liu’s color blindness during the pre-employment physical check and justified its decision as reasonable, saying that the job Liu was up for was a special position that made him ineligible.

However, Liu deemed that post was an ordinary one and said the bureau did not explain the requirements properly during the recruiting process.

On Dec 14, 2011, Liu filed a lawsuit against the bureau over employment discrimination, in an attempt to protect his right to equal opportunity employment and asked for 50,000 yuan ($7,922) in compensation.
