Sanya – China called for immediate ceasefire in Libya to prevent the country from falling into more serious humanitarian disasters, Chinese President Hu Jintao told visiting South African President Jacob Zuma on Wednesday during their meeting on the sideline of the 3rd BRICS Summit, which opens in this sea resort city of Hainan province on Thursday.

China is very concerned with continuing turmoil in Libya and its humanitarian crisis, Hu said.

China supports political efforts of all parties, including African Union, in alleviating the crisis in Libya, Hu said, adding that China is willing to maintain communication and coordination with South Africa on the issue of Libya so as to push for restoration of stability in the North African country.
