HONG KONG -- Hong Kong's Civil Aviation Department said Friday it has approved increases in passenger fuel surcharges levied by All Nippon Airways, Cathay Pacific and Singapore Airlines, which will take effect in December.

After the adjustment, the new maximum surcharges will be HK$120 (US$15.48) for short-haul flights and HK$566 for long-haul flights, up 11 percent and 9 percent respectively, the department said.

The surcharges allow airlines to partially recover operational costs due to fluctuations in aviation fuel prices.

As the aeronautical authority, the Civil Aviation Department considers and approves fuel surcharge applications from the airlines in accordance with bilateral Air Services Agreements. (US$1 is equivalent to HK$7.75)
