China considering US Green Card system: official

China will sustain sole nationality but is considering adopting the US Green Card system to facilitate the lives of returning overseas Chinese, Wang Ping, vice director of the Domestic Division of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, said Sunday, chinanews.com reported.

Wang made the statement during a visit to Vancouver in western Canada, where she was leading a six-member “Overseas Chinese Petition and Consultation Group” delegation to consult with overseas Chinese. “China is about to push a permanent residency system, like the US Green Card, to help returned overseas Chinese start a life and secure welfare,” said Wang.

Many overseas Chinese said China should follow western countries and accept dual nationalities, according to reports.
