Rail traffic back to normal near Beijing after derailment

SHIJIAZHUANG -- Traffic resumed on a rail line near Beijing early Wednesday, ending delays caused by a derailment Tuesday.

"Traffic returned to normal at 0:10 am," a spokesman for the government of Laishui County in northern Hebei Province told Xinhua Wednesday.

The last six cars of train 1164 from Hancheng City in northwestern Shaanxi Province to Beijing left the rails at 7:36 am Tuesday near a village in Laishui, less than 100 km from Beijing.

No casualties were reported and all the carriages remained upright.

The derailed cars were detached at the scene.

Passengers from those cars arrived at Beijing West Railway Station safely with the rest of the train at 12:53 pm, two and a half hours late.

An investigation into the incident was in progress, according to the Beijing Railway Bureau with the Ministry of Railways.
