BEIJING - Chinese shares opened slightly higher Thursday, with market mood buoyed up partly by overnight announcement of financial boost to the US economy.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index opened at 4,527.05 points, up 36.33 points, or 0.81 percent, from the previous closing of 4,490.72 points.

Earlier report said that US President George W. Bush signed a two-year economic stimulating scheme valued at 168 billion US dollars on Wednesday.

Chinese shares fell on Wednesday, the first trading day after the Chinese Lunar New Year holiday week, affected by the weak performance of global markets and investor jitters ahead of the release of key monthly national economic figures.
