6 dead, 6 injured in tricycle-train collision(Xinhua)
Updated: 2007-11-12 06:41 XI'AN -- Six people were killed and three were critically injured after a farming vehicle they rode collided with a train at a railway crossing in northwest China on Sunday. The accident occurred around 9 am Sunday at an unguarded railway crossing in Heyang County in Shaanxi Province, when a farming tricycle with nine people aboard crashed with a passing train, according to local railway authorities. Four of the nine were killed at the scene and two others died in hospital. The other three, who were seriously injured, are still receiving emergency treatment in hospital. The cause of the accident is still being investigated. Unguarded railway crossings are common in China, posing a threat to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. In another latest accident, eight people were killed after a van they were traveling in was hit by a cargo train on a railway crossing in northeast China's Liaoning Province on Saturday. |
