Though rains and thunderstorms might be a major weather phenomenon for the next few days, most of the celebration activities to mark the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland will not be affected as they will be held indoors, according to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory forecast, a broad band of clouds is covering southern China and the northern part of the South China Sea and it will be rainy for the weekend.

From June 29 to July 1, a variety of celebration events will be held in Hong Kong to mark the 10th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland.

On July 1, celebration activities to be held outdoors will include the flag-raising ceremony, a large-scale parade, a football match and a fireworks display, said the HKSAR government.

The People's Liberation Army Parachute brigade postponed its performance of parachuting to next Monday, which was previously set on Thursday, because of heavy rain.

According to the Hong Kong Observatory, rain and thunderstorm are common weather phenomenon in Hong Kong in this season. On July 1, 1997, Hong Kong also experienced heavy rain.
