Demonstrators call halt to round-the-clock protests against Taiwan leader

Demonstrators protesting against Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian have announced that, from Saturday, they will stop organizing round-the-clock protests and instead organize small-scale rallies at night.

The decision came one day after the Taipei police authority revoked their permits to demonstrate outside Chen Shui-bian's office compound between October 14 to 27, according to Taiwan media.

The anti-Chen demonstrators will conduct sit-down protests from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., announced the organisers, adding that there will be no music or speeches. They said the decision has been made to "provide relief" to the police, media and their supporters.

Rally leader Shih Ming-teh, a former member of Chen's Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), will be based at Taipei Railway Station and there will be no large-scale rally until the prosecutors' report on Chen's corruption scandals has been released, according to Taiwan media.
