The Chinese supreme court has pledged its resolution to strengthen intellectual property rights (IPR) protection and will severely punish those who infringe IPR.

The vice-president of the People's Supreme Court, Cao Jianming, addressed an international seminar on intellectual property rights protection which opened Thursday in China's southwestern Chongqing. He said the country's enhancement of its innovative capabilities is imminent, bolstered by consummating its legal system on IPR protection at various levels.

He added though there are flaws in the current legal system on IPR protection, improvements are gradually being made.

Hundreds of legal experts from around the world attended the conference. A wide range of current hot issues on IPR protection were discussed.
