Chinese hard liquor Moutai is vying for a place on the world's luxury product list. The Moutai Group is reportedly in discussion with the World Luxury Association for its application.
Maotai, China's national liquor served at official occasions and state banquets, has been ranked fourth in a top ten of the world’s most valuable labels.
The World Luxury Association will release a top 100 luxury brands list in Beijing in January, 2012. Days before the release, news that Kweichow Moutai has applied to become luxury has been spread widely.
A bottle of Wuliangye brewed in the 1960s is sold at 980,000 yuan ($155,687) at a liquor auction fair in Hangzhou, East China’s Zhejiang province on Jan 2, 2012.
