HONG KONG--Hong Kong stocks slumped 230.4 points, or 1.01 percent, to close at 22,517.55 on Wednesday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened 102.06 points lower and the loss further expanded in the afternoon. The index closed near the day-low of 22,509.18.

Turnover totaled 97.68 billion HK dollars ($1 equals 7.781 HK dollars).
