China to hold int'l advanced materials conference

BEIJING: China will stage the 3rd international advanced materials conference in May as the country aims to develop new materials in its push to build a low-carbon economy, organizers said Wednesday.
The two-day conference will open on May 6 in Chengdu, capital city of Southwest China's Sichuan province. Participants will focus their discussions around such topics as "new materials on energy industry," "new biological materials" and "high-end materials" during the event.
"Not only the producing process of new materials but also the products can be low-carbon," said Jin Jiaman, director of the Global Environment Institute, when commenting on the event.
It will be co-organized by ChemChina, Chengdu city government, Germany's Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology (Dechema) and Deutsche Bank.
The previous two such conferences were held in south China's Hainan province in 2007 and Tianjin municipality in 2008 respectively.
