China Life Insurance Co Ltd, which has stakes in nine commercial banks in China, is interested in buying a stake in Wanzhou City Commercial Bank, a regional bank in Chongqing , insiders said.

Yang Chao, chairman of China Life, said the insurer is also interested in investing in Chongqing's Stated-owned enterprises and infrastructure.

Yang said the insurer will financially support the Agricultural Bank of China's reforms. Insiders close to the insurer said that China Life intended to become one of the lender's strategic investors.
