Research report on 2005 brand distribution published

The Chinese Commercial Advertising Association recently issued a research report on the country's distribution of brands in 2005. The report was published at the August issue of the International Advertising magazine.

According to the report, the catalogue of China's brands from 2003 to 2005 altogether involves 914 brands. In terms of distribution among provinces, Guangdong has 163; Zhejiang, 137; Shandong, 119; followed by Jiangsu (97), Fujian (59), Shanghai (50), Henan (33) and Beijing (31).

By regions, the area, including Guangdong, Zhejiang, Shandong and Jiangsu, boasts the most brands; while the area, including Shanxi (9), Guangxi (9), Anhui (9), Shaanxi (8), Yunnan (8), Jilin (8), Inner Mongolia (7), Guizhou (6), Hainan (3), Gansu (2), Ningxia (2), Qinghai (1) and Tibet (1) has the least brands.

The brands involved in the report include Chinese Famous Trademarks and Chinese Top Brands. The elements of a brand include first-of-mindness, market coverage, consumers' cognition, and brand loyalty, according to the report.

The list of Chinese famous brands, which was initiated in 2001, is refreshed annually and the honorable titles granted to products are effective for three years.

In 2005, the Chinese Famous Brands Strategic Promotion Committee reviewed 22 categories of Chinese famous brands whose honorable titles have expired such as ice lockers, electric water heaters, beer, milk powder and toothpaste. Meanwhile, the committee added 65 categories into the list, including maize starch, soy milk powder, edible plant oil, and so on.
