The fixed asset investment in the Chinese mainland information technology sector jumped 40.9 percent year on year in the first quarter, the highest growth rate since one year ago, the Ministry of Information Industry said yesterday on its Website.

In the first three months, fixed IT investment reached 32.01 billion yuan (US$3.97 billion), 40.9 percent growth, compared with a growth rate of 21.7 percent in 2005, according to MII.

"The whole industry's potential demand surged this year," said MII. "The fastest growth sectors included telecommunications and radar equipment, computers and electronic components and each of them grew more than 50 percent year on year."
