Today marks the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day of China. To celebrate the occasion, let's take a closer look at an extraordinary ancient bronze vessel unearthed from the Panlongcheng site in Wuhan, Hubei province. Standing 18.5 centimeters tall, this finely crafted artifact features a distinctive design that blends elements of several ancient ritual wine vessels into a single elegant form. Its surface is adorned with symmetrical decorative patterns and prominent animal-mask motifs, hallmarks of Bronze Age artistry. More than 3,000 years after it was cast, the vessel continues to showcase the creativity, craftsmanship and cultural sophistication of the Shang civilization.

Dating back to the early Shang Dynasty (c.16th century-11th century BC), the Panlongcheng site was a regional center of the early Bronze civilization along the Yangtze River and laid the foundations for Wuhan city.
