Friendship between China and Cambodia dates back nearly 2,000 years. Historically known as Khmer, Cambodia was a pivotal hub along the Maritime Silk Road. The Angkor Empire, at its height from the 9th to the 14th century, produced the world-renowned Angkor civilization, leaving behind timeless architectural and sculptural masterpieces.
The exhibition unfolds in three sections. "The Rise of the Dynasty" focuses on the Funan and Chenla periods, highlighting the foundation and diversity of early Khmer civilization. "Building the Realm" centers on the Angkor Empire, illustrating the cosmic view and power structures through temple architecture, devaraja worship, and Indian epic reliefs. "Artistic Charm" explores everyday life and craftsmanship through ceramics, bronzes, and wooden folk artifacts.

H.E. Ly Vanna, Cambodian Secretary of State for the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts, stated in his speech at the opening ceremony on June 5 that the exhibition not only showcases Cambodia's historical and cultural heritage but also symbolizes the enduring friendship and deep cultural cooperation between Cambodia and China.
Yu Zhenlong, deputy director of the Shanxi Culture Relics Bureau, noted that Shanxi boasts rich cultural resources and preservation expertise. He expressed the province's willingness to use this exhibition as an opportunity to deepen collaboration with Cambodia in the preservation of cultural relics, art research, and talent development.
