The China Association for Science and Technology will launch a series of activities to commemorate the 10th National Science and Technology Workers' Day, which falls on May 30, aiming to foster a social atmosphere that respects science and talent and support the building of a strong science and technology nation, officials said at a news conference in Beijing on Monday.

As 2026 marks the inaugural year of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-30) and a critical stage in building a strong science and technology nation, Tan Hualin, director of CAST's publicity and culture department, said this year's activities are designed to strengthen the sense of responsibility among the country's scientific workforce and cultivate an enabling ecosystem for scientific and technological development.

The main event will be held in Beijing on Saturday, focusing on promoting the legacy of the spirit of Chinese scientists. A new collection of academic growth materials from veteran scientists will be added to the archives, and scientists will share their firsthand research experiences with the public.

A pilot training program for young science and technology workers will be launched in regions including Tianjin, Fujian and Hainan. The program will bring together young talents from national academic societies, university think tanks and research institutes for cross-disciplinary discussions, innovation research tours and activities promoting the spirit of Chinese scientists.

To bridge the gap between scientific supply and industrial demand, about 50 science and technology service teams will be established. Composed of scientists from various fields, the teams will visit industrial parks and enterprises to carry out tailored technical diagnostics, joint research and standards development.

In addition, the Chinese Chemical Society will launch a themed photography campaign capturing moments of research and problem-solving by frontline chemists, as well as documenting daily laboratory work, to convey the spirit of Chinese scientists in the new era.

The Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics and Engineering will establish a student branch at Tsinghua University that will serve as a platform for themed and in-depth exchanges, enhancing students' professional competence, innovation capabilities and industry perspectives, while supporting the development of future science and technology workers in rock mechanics.
