Global city leaders hold roundtable in Chengdu to address urban challenges
Global city leaders shared experiences and insights on urban development on Thursday in Chengdu, Sichuan province, exploring ways to address cities' common challenges and paths toward a better future.
At the mayors' roundtable of the ongoing 2026 Global Mayors Dialogue · Chengdu, representatives from the host city, international cities and organizations held in-depth discussions on topics of sci-tech innovation, industrial synergy, cultural exchanges and ecological security.
Chen Shuping, mayor of Chengdu, said that against the backdrop of mounting global urban challenges, the city has explored a sustainable development path integrating ecology, production and living through its park city initiative.
Home to over 21 million residents, Chengdu has built more than 1,500 parks and 10,000 kilometers of greenways. Thanks to improved air quality, snow-capped mountains over 100 kilometers away can be seen around 80 days every year, Chen said.
Chen called on global cities to deepen cooperation in industrial development and green growth, leverage cutting-edge technologies such as AI and quantum technology to enhance urban governance and people's well-being, and foster mutual learning and friendship through a wider range of exchange activities.
