Event in Shenzhen to spotlight Greater Bay Area's development
A flagship event aimed at using the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to showcase China's approach to coordinated regional development and what it has achieved will be held in Shenzhen on Thursday.
Speaking at a news briefing on Wednesday, Hu Zhaoming, spokesman for the International Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said the "Stories of the CPC" thematic briefing serves as an important platform for introducing the Party's governance philosophy and practices to foreign political parties.
Since its launch in 2017, the event has been held 19 times in 19 provincial-level regions across China, he said. Shenzhen first hosted it in May 2018.
The theme of this year's event is "A Strategic Underpinning for a New Development Paradigm, a Demonstration Area for High-Quality Development, and a Pacesetter of Chinese Modernization".
More than 160 representatives, including political party leaders, think tank experts and business figures, from over 40 countries, are expected to attend, Hu said.
Hu said five grassroots Party members and representatives of the public from Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao will share firsthand accounts of their role in the Greater Bay Area's development.
He added that foreign delegates will join Chinese officials, business representatives and academics for discussions on the Greater Bay Area's relationship with the world and on how to deepen its cooperation with global partners.
At a time of growing global volatility and uncertainty, China hopes to use the event to present its strategy for coordinated regional development and the progress it has made, showing how stronger domestic drivers can help the country navigate external uncertainties while offering experience that other countries may find useful, he said.
He added that holding the event in Shenzhen is also meant to focus greater attention on the Asia-Pacific and on development and cooperation opportunities centered on the city, ahead of Shenzhen's hosting of the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in November.
