A Moroccan student has become the first foreign national to be awarded the title of "Hangzhou Good Samaritan" after bravely rescuing a woman who fell into Jinsha Lake earlier this month.
On the evening of April 6, a young woman accidentally fell into the lake and was in critical danger. Ayoub Fadil, a student at Hangzhou Dianzi University, immediately jumped into the water after hearing cries for help. He swam nearly six meters in deep water and brought the woman back to shore. After ensuring she was safe, Ayoub quietly left the scene without revealing his identity. His heroic act later gained widespread public attention.
At a ceremony held on April 10, the Hangzhou government awarded Fadil the "Hangzhou Good Samaritan" certificate, making him the first foreign recipient of the honor. The Hangzhou Foundation for Righteous and Courageous Acts also presented him with a commendation and a reward of 5,000 yuan ($731.8).
Humbly accepting the recognition, Fadil said he was "deeply grateful" and emphasized that he simply did what anyone would have done. Having lived in Hangzhou for two years, he described the city as his "second home". Smiling, he added that he plans to use the reward money to buy a gift for his girlfriend.
