China is deeply concerned about the military operations against Iran, which have caused heavy casualties and losses, undermined the security and stability of countries in the region, and affected the global economy and energy security, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said at a regular news briefing on Tuesday.

Mao made the remarks after US President Donald Trump issued an ultimatum to Iran, setting a deadline of 8 pm EDT on Tuesday, for the country to reach a ceasefire agreement or face a massive military strike.

The prolonged conflict and further escalation serve no one's interests, Mao said, adding that all parties should play a constructive role in easing tensions and pushing for peace talks.
