Seven China-based automakers have signed a total of 10 licensing agreements with Avanci, which announced the deals on Tuesday, across its 4G and 5G vehicle programs.

Avanci, a platform that pools standard-essential patents and offers one-stop licensing to automakers, said the agreements highlight growing participation from Chinese manufacturers as vehicles increasingly rely on connectivity for software updates, navigation and in-car services.

More deals are expected in the coming months, the company said, pointing to continued momentum in one of the fastest-growing segments of the auto industry.

"We are delighted that seven China-based automakers are now participating in Avanci as licensees," Avanci Vehicle President Laurie Fitzgerald said, adding that more than 150 automotive brands globally are part of at least one of its programs.

Avanci aggregates patents from dozens of holders into a single licensing framework, allowing carmakers to avoid complex bilateral negotiations. More than 275 million connected vehicles are now covered under its licenses.

Participating brands gain access to patents from nearly 70 licensors under the 4G program and about 90 under the 5G program, the company said.

The expansion comes as automakers globally seek to streamline patent licensing and manage rising intellectual property costs tied to connectivity.
