In Yibin, Sichuan province, where the Jinsha and Minjiang rivers converge to form the mainstream of the Yangtze, some 1.12 million fish fry of rare species were released into the Yangtze in 2023, including 402 breeding-age Yangtze River sturgeon, which is often called "aquatic giant panda" due to its scarcity.
