The 2025 World Cities Day China Observance commenced on Tuesday in Southwest China's Chongqing, carrying the goal of developing smart cities with people in mind. [Photo by Li Ye/For chinadaily.com.cn]

The two-day event also includes a main forum, parallel forums, thematic forums, series events, thematic achievements exhibitions, as well as field visits focusing on urban renewal, community governance, ecological restoration, and industrial heritage protection, the organizers said.

The event was co-hosted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and the Chongqing municipal government.
