Bo Re is the Chinese translation of prajna, the Sanskrit term for wisdom. It is the name of the current exhibition of Zheng Qinyan, now a professor of Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, which shows ink-color paintings and calligraphy installations inspired by the Yungang Grottoes, in Datong, Shanxi province, and the Yunju Temple, first built in the early seventh century, in a village of Beijing's Fangshan district.
By incorporating Buddhist scriptures, statues, lotus flowers and other elements associated with Buddhism, Zheng immerses her audience in a mood of meditation for one to pause, and reflect on the vigor of all lives in the world. Her works echo the belief of Zen Buddhism that seeing the overall of the world in a flower, or a leaf. The exhibition is held at Yungang Art Gallery, of Yungang Institute in Datong, until Aug 28.
