Passengers taking the subway in Chengdu, Sichuan province, on Friday morning were surprised that they were not required to show the result of a negative COVID-19 test.

Ji Hong, a resident of the city, found it much quicker to board.

"The security guard only asked me to show the health code before crossing the security check gate and let me pass with the green code," he said.

Zhou Yufang, a female security guard at Century City Station, said that all subway stations had stopped asking for test results on Friday. Previously, passengers had been required to show the negative results of their nucleic acid tests taken within 72 hours.

On Friday morning, Cheng Du, the WeChat public account of the Chengdu municipal government information office, announced that starting on Friday no nucleic acid test results would be required for passengers.

Two days ago, the city's health commission announced that residents would only need to show a health code when entering and leaving communities and residential quarters, and would no longer show a negative test certificate.
