Geophysics competition strikes rich vein of young talent
An online exploration geophysics competition for international university students wrapped up on Dec 17.
The event, held by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the Society of Petroleum Geophysicists, the Bureau of Geophysical Prospecting Inc. and China University of Petroleum in Beijing, has attracted 348 teams from Peking University, Jilin University and 20 others to participate.
Participants from nine foreign universities, including the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas, also came to show their talents in the event. The contestants had to deliver an online presentation for the judges.
Wu Xiaolin, president of CUP, said the event plays an important role in cultivating more talents in the field of exploration geophysics and further promotes collaboration among universities, enterprises and institutes. The university should focus on carbon reduction and the cultivation of inter-disciplinary talent for the frontier of the energy industry.
