3. All Balanchine
The New York City Ballet (NYCB) made its debut in China this year, presenting five shows during the festival at the Shanghai Grand Theatre from Oct 18 to 22. One of the foremost dance companies in the world, NYCB was founded in 1948 by master choreographer George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein. The shows in Shanghai were entitled All Balanchine and consisted of three of Balanchine's ground-breaking works: Serenade, Swan Lake (one act), and Stravinsky Violin Concerto.
