St Louis was the first US city to host the Olympic Games. In 1904, the 3rd Olympic Games left Europe for the first time, which was significant to the internationalization of the Olympics. But because of the long distance, many European athletes were not able to go, and only 12 countries participated in those Games. Weight-lifting, boxing, freestyle wrestling and decathlon were introduced into the Games for the first time.
